Step by Step
Your Project, From Day 1 to Delivery
Four clear phases. One dedicated coordinator. Zero guessing.
Day 1
Share Your Project Details
Submit your project brief through our simple intake form. We'll ask for your site address, property measurements, project type (ADU, garage conversion, or home addition), and any design preferences you have. No architectural knowledge required — just tell us what you're trying to build.
Simple online intake form — takes 10–15 minutes
No upfront payment until we confirm scope and timeline
We review your zoning and local setback requirements within 24 hours
Day 1–5
Design Development
Your dedicated design coordinator takes your brief and develops the full drawing set. This includes floor plans, site plan, all four exterior elevations, cross-sections, and all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing layouts — using AutoCAD and Chief Architect. You receive a full draft by Day 5.
Produced in AutoCAD — the industry-standard format accepted by all US building departments
Your coordinator works while you sleep — cross-timezone production teams
Draft delivered to you by Day 5 for your review
Day 5–8
Review & Revisions
You review the draft drawings and submit your feedback. We include up to 2 full rounds of revisions with every package — no extra charges. Your coordinator responds to change requests within 4 business hours. Every concern is addressed before we proceed to final production.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not at all. Our intake form is designed for homeowners, not architects. You just tell us what you want to build, where the property is, and any rough ideas you have. We handle all the technical work — zoning research, code compliance, drawing production, and permit paperwork.
At minimum: your property address, a rough idea of what you want to build, and any measurements or photos you have of the site. If you have existing floor plans or survey documents, those speed things up considerably — but they're not required to start.
In most US jurisdictions, ADUs, garage conversions, and home additions do not require a licensed architect — only stamped construction drawings. We produce those drawings. We'll review your specific jurisdiction during our intake process and let you know if your project is an exception.
We have a 98% first-submission permit approval rate. In the rare case of a rejection related to our drawings, we'll revise and resubmit at no additional cost. We stand behind our drawings.
Yes. We've built our entire workflow around this timeline. Our teams operate across time zones, meaning your project is actively worked on around the clock. 50+ delivered projects and counting — all on time. We back this with a delivery guarantee.
Two revision rounds are included in every package. These cover most change scenarios. Additional revision rounds beyond that are available for a flat fee — your coordinator will quote you before any work begins.
Client Stories
What Homeowners Say
"I got quotes from 3 local architects for my garage conversion. All were $7,000–$12,000 with a 10–14 week timeline. Build With A Plan delivered permit-ready drawings in 9 days for a fraction of the cost. Permit was approved first submission."
Marcus T.
Garage Conversion · Phoenix, AZ
"The process was incredibly straightforward. I filled out the intake form on a Monday, had a full draft by Friday, submitted revision notes over the weekend, and had final stamped drawings the following Thursday. The building department had no issues."
Rachel K.
ADU Design · Los Angeles, CA
"My coordinator responded to every question within a few hours. I've worked with local design firms before and waited days for callbacks. The communication alone made this worth it — plus the drawings were excellent quality."
James W.
Home Addition · Austin, TX
